WALTER JOHNSON'S CABIN

Prospectors like Walter Johnson had been in the area for decades prior to INCO's presence, erecting crude log cabins like this one in the present-day Thompson area.

"Jack and Alice Moore recollect life at North Mystery Lake, a small trappers’ settlement . . . [with] trap lines running through the entire region, including the area where the Thompson townsite is now situated . . .  Alice Moore remembers that, as a child, she was picking wild cranberries where the Thompson Plaza now stands. There she met Walter Johnson.” (Photo circa 1940s. Photographer unknown. Text courtesy Thompson, A City and its People by Graham Buckingham.)
