MOAK LAKE EXPLORATION CAMP

This aereal shot of the Canadian Nickel Co. main exploration camp at Moak Lake clearly shows the aircraft dock and buildings. It was from this base that Inco conducted the intensive search for ore that resulted in the launching of its great northern Manitoba development. Buildings included a hoisthouse, staff house, geological field offices, sample house, assay lab, warehouse (which doubled as a weekly movie theatre), garage, firehall, Diesel generator station, dock, accommodations for diamond drilling and mine development crews, and housing for approximately six families. There were 25 diamond drills operating in the area at the time.
